For all who are wondering about the printer cartridges that cannot be used whence enrolled to HP instant ink subscription.
After months of back and forth with the HP agents, here's the short story and what worked for me.
I moved from Canada to UAE but the HP instant ink subscription doesn't work in UAE. UAE doesn't have any HP printer cartridges that supports my printer (HP Envy 6455e), i.e., HP 67/305 cartridges. The original HP instant ink comes with HP 67/305 cartridges and they don't work in UAE region.
So after months of discussion with HP agents, I went ahead and bought HP 67 ink cartridges from Amazon.ae, which ships from US.
I had created a separate HP account for which the region is associated with UAE and not Canada.
I installed the cartridges and ran a test print and couple of more and it worked.

I notified the moderator of the problem.
Changing the region code can be difficult as described here.
When an agent contacts you ensure that the agent is familiar with the OS you are using. If the agent is in a different time zone try to get one in your time zone. If that is not possible you may need to choose the best time to make a contact.
You may need WhatsApp to work through the region reset procedure.
1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.
2. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer.
3. You need to have all the cartridges either from the region/country from where the printer was purchased originally or the new region/country to which you want to reset it to.
4. The cartridges must be genuine HP.
5. Make sure HP Smart App is installed.
6. If the printer is not under warranty, then the ink cartridges need to be in the warranty period.

Hi @KRC333,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you. Please note that HP Printers use different ink cartridges in different region and to use the ink cartridges sold in the current region, we need to change the region settings on the printer.
I request you to please get back to me with the following information, so that I can help you change the region settings on the printer.
Do you still have the ink cartridges for both regions
Do you have a printer USB cable?
Which OS is on a PC, is it Windows or Mac?
Do you have the printer's full feature software and drivers installed on your PC?
Hope this helps!
Thanks!
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello VikramTheGreat,
Here are my responses.
Do you still have the ink cartridges for both regions
-> I have the ink cartridges from the region (Canada) where the printer was bought. Do I need to buy the ink cartridge from the current region (UAE) as well? Do I need both Black and Color for this purpose or just getting black is enough?
Do you have a printer USB cable?
-> Printer didn't come with a USB cable. Is this very much necessary for the printer region setting to be changed? I've connected my laptop with Wifi, can this is done via Wifi?
Which OS is on a PC, is it Windows or Mac?
-> It is Windows 11.
Do you have the printer's full feature software and drivers installed on your PC?
-> Yes, I have the HP smart software and full software installed on my PC.
Thank you,
KRC.

Hi @KRC333,
Regarding your queries about the regional reset:
1. Ink Cartridges Requirement (Canada → UAE region change)
For a successful regional reset, the printer typically requires both sets of cartridges:
- The original region cartridges (Canada), and
- The new region cartridges (UAE)
This process helps the printer recognize and switch from the old region to the new one.
Additionally, it is recommended to have both Black and Color cartridges for the new region. Using only a black cartridge may not complete the reset properly, as the printer generally validates both cartridges during initialization.
2. USB Cable Requirement
While the printer can connect via Wi-Fi, for a regional reset procedure, using a USB cable is strongly recommended.
- A USB connection provides a stable and direct communication between the printer and the computer.
- This helps avoid interruptions during the reset process, which is important for successful region reconfiguration.
Wi-Fi may work in some cases, but it can be less reliable during this specific procedure.
Summary:
- Yes, you will need both region cartridges (old and new).
- It is best to have both Black and Color cartridges for the new region.
- A USB cable is recommended to ensure a smooth and stable regional reset process.
If you’re ready to proceed, please let us know, and we can guide you through the step-by-step regional reset process.
Take care and have an amazing day!
