HP DeskJet 2721e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I need a regionalization reset after moving from Europe to the United States with my HP Deskjet 2721e printer. Until I complete the reset, I will be unable to use the ink cartridges available for the printer in the US. The US cartridges currently read as "incompatible."

Could someone provide me instructions on how to complete the regionalization reset? Thank you so much!

Hi @brockscp,

Welcome to the HP Support.

I will be more than happy to help you out here.

To perform a printer region reset you need to meet the following conditions:

1. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer.

2. You need to have all the cartridges either from the region/country from where the printer was purchased originally or the new region/country to which you want to reset it to.

3. Make sure HP Smart App is installed too.

Do keep me posted.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,

Thank you for the response. I have the cartridges and HP Smart installed, but I'm not sure about the "printer full feature software." What is the name of that software? It's possible I already have it, but I'm not positive.

Once I have that sorted out, what is the process to complete the region reset?

Thanks again, and I appreciate your continued help.

Hi @brockscp,

Thank you for your response,

Connect the printer via USB (usually you need it in case your internet connection is not strong or may have downtime while performing it. You can skip it and perform the process under wifi as well)

Launch HP Smart and click the product ink levels to open the Supported Cartridges window.

Clicking ink levels in HP Smart

Hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys (Cmd + Space in MAC) and then right-click on the empty area to the right of the ink levels.

Clicking to the right of the ink levels

The Set New Regions window opens.

Thanks Alden4,

I have connected the printer via USB as you suggested, but I am unable to get the Set New Regions window to open. I am following your instructions in the HP Smart app, but nothing comes up when I hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys and right click next to the Estimated Ink Levels. I only get the typical "Back, Refresh, Save As, Share" normal options.

Can you better direct me to where I should be clicking? Maybe with an image? What could I be doing wrong?

Thanks for your continued help.

Hi @brockscp,

Thank you for your response,

Please try the below for Windows:

All the required values will show up in region reset window,
Install the new ink cartridges in the printer and from your Windows PC, try the following steps:

1) Launch the printer software from the desktop icon or Or, from the Start menu, click Start, All Programs, HP, the Product Name, and then the Product Name again.
2) Double-click the Estimated Ink Levels icon in the printer software. The Estimated Ink Levels window opens.
3) Press and hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys, and then right-click anywhere in the Estimated Ink Levels window, except for a button. The Set New Region window opens.
4) If the Set New Region window fails to open, right-click to the right and left of the Estimated Ink Levels window.

Share the screenshot of the screen that appears

Hi Alden4,

I have been unable to find the printer software on my computer. All I can find is HP Smart, where I do not appear to be able to open up the "Set New Region" window. When I go through my computer from Start > Program Files > HP, I then get a folder called NativeHost and inside that is about twenty .dll files that I cannot open. I see no files with "the Product Name".

Can you provide me directions to where I might be able to install the right software, in case I don't already have it on the computer? When I try to find the software on the HP website, it continually redirects me to installing HP Smart, which I have fully updated and is still not working when I try to open the "Set New Region" window by following the instructions in your earlier post.

Thank you for you continued help!
