HP OfficeJet Pro 6978
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I was living in US from Jan 2018 to July 2020. I bought an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 in early 2018 and its warranty expired in 2019.

I then moved to Brazil, where I am now, and, of course, brought the printer with me.

Now the original cartridges, #902, ended and I, after checking for compatible cartridges available in Brazil in the HP site, purchased a new set of the #904 cartridges, which are physically identical to the ones sold in US.

Well.... they are "not compatible" with my printer, due to its region lock. After searching here in this support forum, after having called support in US (3 times) and called support in Brazil (3 times) I'm stuck, with no solution : Local Brazil support "refuses" to reset my printer region lock because it is out of warranty - apparently here in Brazil having the cartridges under warranty is not enough. Even if wanted to pay for the service, there is no one single authorized repair shop who provides the service. And the phone support also cannot do it.

Net is : HP wants me to toss the printer in the garbage alongside with a brand new set of cartridges, simply because its support staff refuses to give me the simple set of codes to reset my printer to Brazil, so I could keep purchasing original HP cartridges, as I did my entire life ! I guess buying an Epson printer is what they want me to do !

Anyone reading this can help me with it ?

FINALLY !!! A good soul named Abu from the Social Media Support team stick with me for a few hours over Facebook Messenger and was able to solve it for me, re-setting my printer to Brazil region, when the #904 cartridges I had to replace the US #902 ones are no longer giving me an error message !

It was a long journey, as I had to hook up the printer thru USB to a windows OS computer and install the "full version" of the HP SW in it. I'm a mac user and it took us both (Abu and myself) to figure this whole thing up. Once I finally was able to get to the "support window" where I could give him my printer codes and he gave me back the new codes to be inputed in the tool.

Kudos to HP Facebook Social Media Support !

Booooohooo to US Phone support !

and "ridiculous boohoo" to Brazil HP support overall !
