After the most recent firmware update, I am continually getting a "setup incomplete" error message on my printer and I can no longer print.  The messages says that "...something has gone wrong or is incomplete in the registration." Prior to the update, I could print just fine. I've gone into my account and the only thing that appears to be wrong (which isn't wrong, IMO) is that the warranty is expiring at the end of December. Is anyone else having this issue? How did you fix it w/o having to extend your warranty?

I personally think you should not have to do any of the following.   You might complain to HP about it since it is still in warranty.

To resolve the "cannot complete registration" or frozen firmware update error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8125e, use the HP Support Community or the HP App to clear the setup lock and finish registering your account.[ref_1, ref_2, ref_3]

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer and Router

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is turned on.
  • Unplug your Wi-Fi router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Wait 60 seconds, plug the printer power cord directly into a wall outlet (bypass surge protectors), and turn it back on.[ref_1, ref_2]

Step 2: Reset Network and Web Services

  • On the printer's touchscreen, go to Settings > Web Services or HP ePrint and turn Web Services Off, then turn it Back On to refresh the claim/registration token.[ref_1]
  • If registration still fails, go to Menu (gear icon) > Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults to clear out stuck setup loops.[ref_1]

Step 3: Clear and Re-add in the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Sign out of your HP account, close and reopen the app, sign back in, and tap Add Printer to run the registration wizard anew. Make sure your phone or PC is connected to a 2.4 GHz/5 GHz Wi-Fi network (not a VPN).[ref_1, ref_2, ref_3]

Step 4: Manual Firmware Update via USB (If Frozen)

  • Connect a USB cable from your computer directly to the printer.
  • Run the firmware update utility on your computer; it will detect the printer in recovery mode and push the update through.[ref_1]
