I have an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw.   I cannot connect to its scanner remotely.

I have the printer in one room and the MacBook (OS 12.4) in another.  They are both connected to the same network.

I have no trouble printing wirelessly to the HP.

The Printers & Scanners Preference lists the HP as a printer but not as a scanner.  The “kind” is “HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw-AirPrint.”

HP Easy Scan does not show the scanner.

I had HP Easy Start open.  It reported that it was “Preparing for Device Setup.”  It was at this stage for many minutes, without any progress.

I have in the past connected the MacBook and the HP by USB cable.   The scanner works then.  But I want to scan remotely as easily as I can print remotely.

Any guesses as to what the problem is?

Hi @RGilpin,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand that you are facing some issues while scanning the document from your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw printer. I understand you have the PC and printer connected Via USB.

To assist better:-

  • Is any antivirus software installed?
  • Did you try scanning from HP smart and Apple capture?
  • Do you get any error while scanning the above applications?

While you respond to the above questions you may follow the below steps:
