OS is actually 26.1

I don't want to have to enter a PIN each time I try to access the EWS. How do I remove the pin requirement?

Short Answer:

You cannot remove the security.

You can change the password and / or add the password (PIN) to your password manager.

Changing the password is supported --

The section where you change the password in EWS explains the rules for the custom password.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Security > Password Settings

-- Be aware --

Changing the PIN to a Custom password is supported and works – until and unless it does not.

Pay attention, Save the password in your password manager so you can find it if needed.

If naught else, write down the password on a paper.

What!?

True -- if you were willing to remove the security, writing down the password is not likely to rock your world.

AND

Taking a "Walk about" in the printer's security?

Using Access Control it's possible to create a variety of security levels for one or more designated printer users.

Access Control is part of the added security controls on this series.

Nice.

Should you do anything at all wrong, it is possible to lock up pretty much everything.

Not-so-nice.

Be careful.

In general, though, should you edit / change / update Access Control features -- and -- as long as you don't lock yourself (the admin) out of the printer EWS -- modifications to Access Control can be easily removed.

Thanks for the reply.

Not being able to remove the PIN is a terrible move. It's not a security question (about the writing it down), it's the fact it's making life more complicated to do simple tasks (e.g. using web scan).

Password managers seem to not work without a username and a password - at least mine requires a username. Unnecessary complications.

You are welcome.

True --

Sometimes the solution is not the one wanted.

I believe it's industry pressure that drives the response for additional security.

These top-of-line OfficeJet Pro small business printers able to work in a more complicated work space and remain secure.

The added security might not be worth the extra work to those who only use their products at home in a closed environment and either trust their setup or don't care.  There's merit on both sides.

I'm sorry you are disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, I think the option for the added security is a good thing. But I also think it should be possible to disable.

@TheMoose

Oh, I agree --  The added security might be better received were it something that could be disabled by the owner / administrator.  Not sure how the code would work, but yes -- it would be nice.

Long, ungainly passwords are irritating when they have to be hand entered and managed.
