Hi @10410,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To remove your old HP DeskJet 4650 printer from your MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina and ensure it no longer appears in your system, follow these steps:

1. Remove the Old Printer from System Preferences

  • Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Preferences.
  • In System Preferences, click on Printers & Scanners.
  • In the list of printers on the left, find and select the HP DeskJet 4650.
  • Click the - (minus) button below the list of printers. This will remove the selected printer from your list.

2. Delete Printer Drivers and Software (Optional but Recommended)

  • Click on the Finder icon in your Dock.
  • Navigate to the Applications folder and look for any HP printer-related applications or utilities. This might include applications like HP Smart or HP Utility.
  • Drag any HP-related applications to the Trash to remove them.

Check Library for Printer Drivers:

  • In Finder, press Command + Shift + G to open the Go to Folder dialog.
  • Enter /Library/Printers/ and press Go.
  • If you see any folders related to HP, you can drag them to the Trash to remove old printer drivers.
  • Right-click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select Empty Trash to permanently remove the files.

3. Restart Your Mac

  1. Restart Your Computer:
    • Go to the Apple menu and select Restart to ensure that all changes take effect and any remnants of the old printer are cleared from memory.

4. Add the New HP OfficeJet 9051e Printer:

  • Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  • Click on Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + (plus) button to add a new printer.
  • Select HP OfficeJet 9051e from the list of available printers.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install any necessary drivers and complete the setup.

5. Verify Printer Setup

  • Once the new printer is added, try printing a test page to ensure everything is set up correctly.
  • Make sure the new printer is working properly with your MacBook Pro and can perform tasks like scanning or copying if applicable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
