macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi,

An elderly relative need some help with their HP printer connected to a Mac running OS X Mojave and ended up talking to HP support. The support person got her to install some HP remote access software from https://support.hp.com/us-en/remoteconnection ( my relative had to instructed on how to manually bypass GateKeeper!) and then the support person solved the issue while remotely controlling the Mac.

I am happy the support person fixed the issue, but I am very uncomfortable knowing that some remote control software is installed on her Mac. I cannot find anything obvious in "Applications". Can anyone shed light on  what was installed and how to remove it

Thanks

Hi! @loopless, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand you would like to know how to remove the remote access software from the MAC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

By default when the remote access is taken it will not install any software on the MAC. It just installs a temporary file and when the remote session is ended the file would be get deleted itself.

However, if you still want to be on a safer side you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Open a Finder window and click "Go" from the menu bar, then "Go to folder" and type "/private/var/tmp" in the box. Should be able to delete the logmein folders from there.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day! 🙂

OK, thanks for the explanation - that explains why I could not find any software on her computer.

It might help that the tech support person could make that very clear hat the software is only temporary when they send the e-mail with the link to the download.
