I had a printer about 5 years ago that is listed in HP Smart. I disposed of it before removing it from HP Smart and I can't get it deleted from the Printer list in HP SMART. Everytime I try to select it is says connect it to the network...I don't have it anymore. It is mostly just a house keeping thing but very annoying. I couldn't find anything in the HP SMART APP that was helpful.
Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Community --
Might be more than one place to check...
HP Smart the Application - If you can do so, use the Printer Settings to find and Hide Printer
Example - HP Smart - Windows - Settings
HP_Smart_Win_Main_Menu_5
===========================================================
HP Smart / HP Connected -- The is the account to which you add / manage printers for remote printing.
In the case of your older printer, this might have been a printer added to the account for ePrint.
If you can do so, try removing the printer from the printer list
Printers / Allowed Users “HP Connected”
Click Flag to switch to your region
Account Dashboard
Select Printers > In Section Manage Printer Options
Example - HP Smart / HP Connected - Devices
HP_Smart_Connected_Edit_ePrint_Address_3
======================================
HP Account - Management / Device Lists / Warranty and Product Information
HP Account - Login / Dashboard
HP Device list, Cases, Warranty information, How-to / Troubleshooting, Product and Service information, Add or Delete a device
Example - HP Account > Dashboard > My Devices
HP_Account_Dashboard_7
======================================
Finally, not what you asked but possibly related to the whole "old printer hanging out"...
Example - HP Support Assistant > Settings
HPSA_Profile_Remove_Device_2
