I need to gain access to the admin functions on my hp-7740 printer and can't remember the admin password for the integrated webserver/system. Then I need a solution to the printer giving me ink cartridge errors after I replaced TWICE the black ink cartridge with genuine hp product. I understand reverting the firmware to an earlier version may fix but I can't do this until I get in the admin settings. I cannot believe that with this issue being an obviously widely known one that HP has not notified registered users and instead allow them to purchase very expensive replacement ink cartridge's and then still make the solutions as obtuse as possible and answers way easier to find on third party websites. REDICULOUS $500 printer 250+ ink and they kill it with firmware and do not notify owners of web connected devices! If I sound frustrated I am this is unacceptable.

Hi @marcush70,
I'd like to help!
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
The reset will not help, but I have shared the instructions in a private message.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
