Sorry, I got the wrong printer instructions. Let me look for 577 reset
The following should work
To reset the HP PageWide Pro 577dw, you must first enable the Factory Reset from the hidden 'Enable/Disable' menu. To access the hidden 'Enable/Disable' menu, from the home screen, press: Home, Back, Home, Back.
click here for image of the screen
Touch 'Enable/Disable' when it appears at the top of the screen. From here, scroll down to 'Factory Reset' and enable that. After enabling, leave with “go back” and go to Control Panel.
On the Control Panel:
- Select: The Settings Gear (Set-Up).
- Select: Printer Management.
- Select: Restore.
- Select: Restore Factory Defaults, here select Continue.
The product will give you a warning about resetting all passwords, then will restart automatically. When it reboots, it will be back to factory settings. All settings, including manual IP’s will have been reset. According to HP Community Info: it will not restore Firmware-Updates.

Did you follow the instructions shown?
Did you do step 2 above? Touch 'Enable/Disable'? when it appears at the top of the screen.

I am glad you got it working. The problem of password locking is bad. Sometime it is a good idea to lock a printer when there is the possibility of someone sending multiple faxes (spam) or wasting ink. Other times it is mischief by an employee. It would be really helpful if you could explain what you did to solve the problem or provide a link to the information. For example, this web site provided invaluable information on using HP ink cartridges that could not be found anywhere else.
