I recently made changes to my wifi network and needed to access the Setup & Service sections of the Printer to made the adjustments. It is asking me for a Password. I have forgotten or lost the password and need to reset the password or do a complete factory reset without the password. Does anyone have a good solution for this? I appreciate any help in advance.

Hi @Biff360,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If you've forgotten the password to your HP printer and need to reset it or perform a factory reset, here are some general methods that work for many HP models. The exact steps can vary depending on the model, but these are commonly effective:
🔧 Method 1: Use the Printer Control Panel (Touchscreen Models)
- Go to the Home screen on the printer.
- Tap the Setup or Settings icon (gear symbol).
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
- Select Restore or Restore Defaults.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
This will reset all settings, including the admin password and Wi-Fi configuration
🔧 Method 2: Button Combination for Non-Touchscreen Models
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Cancel button.
- While holding Cancel, press and hold the Power button.
- Continue holding both for about 10–15 seconds until the printer powers on and shows signs of resetting.
This method works on many HP DeskJet and LaserJet models
🔧 Method 3: Use the HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.
- Go to Advanced Settings to open the Embedded Web Server.
- Navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults.
- If prompted for a password, try:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin or the PIN found on a sticker inside the printer (usually near the cartridges).
If you can access the EWS, this is the most reliable way to reset the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
