HP DeskJet 3630 All-in-One Printer

Hi all, I'm trying to access the Embedded Web Server on the HP Smart to access printer configuration on a HP DeskJet 3630 printer which I was gifted by a neighbour when they moved house.

I've managed to test print and scan capability but whenever I try to access in HP Smart setup I'm hit with a message stating "A custom password has been set for your printer." - unfortunately I don't know what this is and it seems impossible to change it. Have tried searching online but I can't seem to find anything precisely regarding this issue.

Please could somebody let me know if I need to somehow perform a factory reset for the 3630 (can't find this in manuals) or whether I can remove this password by some other means from the printer? I've read some support posts regarding NVRAM resets which might be what I need?

Checked the Printer Status Report too but it just states Admin Password: Not Set so I can only assume the 'custom password' set is nothing to do with this?

Many thanks for any help!

Hi @ajrey92,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on an HP DeskJet 3630 printer, you'll need to follow these steps.

Ensure the Printer is Connected: Make sure the printer is connected to your network and powered on. It should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the computer or device you're using to access the EWS.

Find the Printer's IP Address: You'll need the printer's IP address to access the EWS. You can usually find this information by printing a network configuration page or by checking your router's device list. Here's how to print a network configuration page.

  • a. Press the Wireless button or the Information button on the printer's control panel. This will display the wireless summary screen.
  • b. On the wireless summary screen, look for an option like "Network Configuration" or "Wireless Test Report." Select it, and the printer will print a page with network information, including the IP address.

Access the EWS:

  • a. Open a web browser on your computer or device.
  • b. In the address bar of the web browser, type the IP address you found in step 2 and press Enter.
  • c. This should take you to the EWS of your HP DeskJet 3630 printer. You may be prompted to log in. If so, the default username and password are usually "admin" for both fields. However, check your printer's manual or documentation for any specific login information.

Configure Printer Settings: Once you've accessed the EWS, you can navigate through the settings to configure your printer as needed. You can adjust settings related to wireless connectivity, print quality, paper handling, and more.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Alden4,

Unfortunately not having much luck with this - I don't actually seem able to connect to WiFi when looking through the options on HP Smart? I'm consistently hit with the 'custom password' prompt:

I'm thinking that this was a password set by the previous owner and that I may need to factory reset the DeskJet 3630. I've seen a few other posts in which instructions on how to do this were private messaged across, as instructions don't seem to be in any of the user manuals for this particular printer?

If I check network settings, it just informs me that it isn't connected as below, and trying to click on any other setting options hits me with the custom password prompt again.

Please could you advise whether the printer needs to be factory reset to remove the 'custom password' and how I can do this?

Many thanks,

ajrey92
