I'm in the process of re-activating our Officejet 7730 and I've found it has an unknown password.  I'm unable to access teh settings menu on the printer and can't login on the printer's web interface (but it is accessible).  Is there a procedure to reset to factory settings?  best regards Ian.

Hi @iancmontu

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels to be locked out of your OfficeJet Pro 7730 because of an unknown password. Let’s go through the steps you can take to reset the printer back to factory defaults so you can regain access.

Step 1: Perform a Basic Power Reset

  1. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  2. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the cord back into the wall and reconnect to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on.
This clears temporary settings but won’t reset the password.

Step 2: Restore Network Settings

If the issue is only with the web interface password:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  2. This will reset Wi‑Fi and network configurations, including the embedded web server password.
  3. Reconnect the printer to your network and try accessing the web interface again.

Step 3: Full Factory Reset

If you need to reset all settings:

  1. On the printer control panel, press Setup.
  2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. Confirm the reset.
This will erase all custom settings, including passwords, and return the printer to its original state.

Step 4: Update Firmware (Recommended after Reset)

  1. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page:
    HP Software and Driver Downloads
  2. Enter your model OfficeJet Pro 7730.
  3. Download and install the latest Firmware update.
  4. Restart the printer after installation.

After completing the factory reset, you should be able to access the settings menu and web interface without being blocked by the old password. Would you like me to also guide you through setting up a new secure password once the reset is complete, so you can avoid this situation in the future?
