How do I reset the password on my LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw. I downloaded HP smart and I keep getting the Printer Status Unavailable message. When I checked the setting on the printer, I am asked to enter the password (which I forgot).
Thanks.

Hi @aef747,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you need to reset the password on your HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276nw and are encountering issues with accessing the printer settings, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you reset the password and regain access to your printer:
**1. Use the Printer's Control Panel
Access the Printer's Menu:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Setup menu. This is usually represented by a wrench or gear icon.
Reset to Factory Defaults:
- Find and select Service or Administration (the exact name might vary).
- Look for an option like Restore Defaults, Factory Reset, or Reset All Settings. This option will restore the printer to its original factory settings, including resetting any passwords.
Confirm the Reset:
- Follow the prompts to confirm the reset. This action will erase all current settings, including the network settings and password.
Reconfigure Your Printer:
- After the reset, you will need to reconfigure your printer settings, including setting a new password and reconnecting to your network.
**2. Use HP Web Admin Interface
If the printer is connected to a network, you can access the printer’s web admin interface:
Find the Printer's IP Address:
- Print a configuration page from the printer’s control panel. This page will include the IP address of the printer.
Access the Web Admin Interface:
- Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the printer.
- Enter the printer’s IP address into the browser’s address bar and press Enter.
Log In to the Web Admin Interface:
- If you have previously set up the password and cannot remember it, you may need to perform a factory reset (as described above) to access this interface.
Change the Password:
- Once you have access, navigate to the security or network settings to change the password.
**3. Use HP Smart App
Reinstall HP Smart:
- If HP Smart is giving you the “Printer Status Unavailable” message, try reinstalling the app and ensure your printer and computer are on the same network.
Add the Printer Again:
- Open HP Smart, and follow the prompts to add your printer again. If the printer has been reset to factory settings, it should appear as a new device.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve connectivity and access issues.
*4. Reset the Network Settings
If the printer is only accessible through a network and you’ve forgotten the network password, you might need to:
- Reconnect to Network:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Network settings and select Wireless Setup Wizard or Network Setup.
- Follow the prompts to reconnect to your network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
