The printer was a gift but all the setting are password locked and I can't figure out how to reset. I can't connect to my wifi network or anything.

@Silkygoose, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding resetting your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the previous owner set up an admin password on the printer, which is preventing you from accessing or changing the settings. To reset your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw and regain access, follow these steps:

Factory Reset

This will restore the printer to its default settings and remove any administrator password.

Using the Printer's Control Panel

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel (X) button simultaneously.
  3. While holding the buttons, turn on the printer by plugging it back in.
  4. Keep holding the buttons until the printer displays Restore Factory Defaults or reboots automatically.
  5. Once the printer restarts, try accessing the settings again.

Using HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant

  1. Install HP Smart on your computer or smartphone.
  2. Try to connect the printer via USB.
  3. Look for a Reset or Restore Defaults option under printer settings.

After Resetting:

  • The printer will return to its default settings.
  • You’ll need to reconfigure Wi-Fi and other preferences.
  • The default username is usually admin, and there may be no password (leave it blank).

If none of these methods work, let me know!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
