series number error, I enter what labeled on my printer but keep getting not valid serial number

If you are receiving a "Serial Number Not Valid" message for your HP Officejet Pro 9730e, please verify that you are entering the printer serial number (S/N) and not the product number, model number, MAC address, or another identifier from the printer label.
 

Please check the following:
 

Locate the serial number on the printer label, typically found:

• On the back of the printer.
• Inside the cartridge access area.
• On the printer information label.

Enter the serial number exactly as shown:

• Do not include spaces.
• Be careful to distinguish similar characters, such as:
  • 0 (zero) and O (letter O)
  • 1 (one) and I (letter I)

If you are entering the serial number into HP Smart or an HP website, try copying it directly from:

• A Printer Status Report, or
• The printer's Embedded Web Server (if accessible).

If the serial number on the printer label continues to be rejected, please send us a private message Private Messages - HP Support Community with:

• A clear photo of the printer's serial number label.
• A screenshot of the error message.
