HP OfficeJet Pro 8620
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I've seen this issue raised several times on the forum, but the HP response never adequately respond to the issue.

I'm trying to install the Essential Software and HP Easy Scan for OfficeJet Pro 8620.  During installation, it prompts you to let "SWHelper" make changes to the computer.  It doesn't say what this is or what changes it wants to make.  When you search these forums, there are HP reps saying explicitly that SWHelper is not part of the HP software package.  Yet, if you cancel the popup and deny SWHelper the requested permissions, it aborts the install.

Can someone from HP PLEASE explain what SWHelper is, what role it's playing in the driver package/why it's included, and what changes it's seeking to make.  From the previous responses on this support forum, it makes it seem like the HP driver package contains malware--since the HP team is explicitly saying it's not their software/not included when it clearly is.

@lidington, Welcome to HP Support Community!

This is a gatekeeper issue where your Mac Computer wants to make sure the software you're installing is safe for the system.

While installing the software package you need to allow in Security & Privacy System Preference to complete the install. Leave the System Preference open to complete the install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
