HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I have just purchased a MacOS Sonoma desktop and I am trying to download the drivers for the printer. I have a window pop up and ask for a password for SWHelper. I don't have a password for it? How do I make one for it? It just popped up and there was no request for setting it up on my new computer??

Hi @Duckish33,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering a prompt for the password associated with "SWHelper" during the driver installation process for your HP ENVY 4520 printer on your MacOS Sonoma desktop. SWHelper is likely a component of the HP software or driver package.

Typically, when you're prompted for a password during software installation on macOS, it's asking for your administrator password. This is the same password you use to log in to your Mac or make system changes. If you're the owner of the computer, you should have set up this password during the initial setup of your macOS Sonoma desktop.

Try entering the password you use to log in to your Mac. If you've forgotten your administrator password or it's not accepting it for some reason, you can reset it using the following steps.

  1. Restart your Mac, and immediately hold down Command + R until the Apple logo appears. This will boot your Mac into Recovery Mode.
  2. Once in Recovery Mode, click on "Utilities" in the menu bar, then select "Terminal."
  3. In the Terminal window, type resetpassword (without quotes) and press Enter.
  4. A Reset Password window will appear. Select your startup disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
  5. Choose your username from the dropdown menu and enter a new password. Then click "Save."
  6. Restart your Mac normally.

After resetting your password, try the printer driver installation process again and enter the new password when prompted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
