HP Recommended

I have been using a Samsung ML-2525 printer connected through a USB cord to my HP laptop successfully for years now.   Printer worked perfectly well and it was just perfect for my needs..  Just out of the blue for some reason the other day,  the name of my printer dropped off of my printers & scanners list.  In trying to reconnect it - it is not being detected by my laptop settings when I try to add it back through the "add a printer" menu item in personalization.  I've  tried to find the driver again manually.  The message comes back that there is no printer connected.  .Any ideas how I can reconnect my printer to my HP laptop and why it just dropped off the face of the earth?  I would really appreciate any help I can receive because it would be a shame to have to replace this lovely little printer with a new one when there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Thank you so much in advance for your help.
