Hi @RickM1951,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To reinstall the driver for your Samsung ML-2165W printer and resolve the communication issue, follow these steps.
Uninstall the Existing Driver (if partially installed)
- On your computer, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features (or Add or Remove Programs in older versions of Windows).
- Locate any entries for "Samsung ML-2165W" or "Samsung Printer Software" and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
Download the Correct Driver
- Visit the HP Support Website (Samsung printers are now supported by HP).
- Search for Samsung ML-2165W in the driver and software search bar.
- Select your operating system (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS) and download the latest driver.
Install the Driver
- Run the downloaded driver file and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Connect your printer to your computer when prompted during the installation process.
For Wired Connection:
- Connect the printer using a USB cable.
For Wireless Setup:
- Ensure your printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Use the Samsung Printer Diagnostics Tool (if included in the driver package) to help establish the connection.
Test the Printer
- After installation, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Ensure the printer appears in the list. Set it as the default printer if needed.
- Print a test page to confirm functionality.
Additional Troubleshooting (if needed)
- Reset the Printer: If the printer doesn’t connect, reset it by holding the WPS button (for wireless setup) or power-cycling it.
- Firmware Update: Check the HP website for any firmware updates for the Samsung ML-2165W and install them if available.
- Firewall and Antivirus: Ensure they aren’t blocking the printer’s communication. Temporarily disable them to test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
