Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Couldn't connect my printer to my network, so I went to HP Customer Service to see what the issue might be..Changed my router's password a few days back and all hell broke loose. I was channeled (by HP Customer Service) into "Helpme.net" somehow and convinced to let them access my HP desktop, after sending them some $$ and they proceeded to do whatever it took to connect my printer and eat up two hours doing it. Not quite sure what they did, but it did work. There is that. BUT I am pretty sure they didn't do much else, For my trouble I have a couple of phone numbers that go unanswered (he did pick up the second time I called) and a very official looking service agreement. I am pretty sure I got scammed. They claimed that they had installed all sorts of security measures to ensure I am immune to hacking (yeah, right) and that I need not renew my TrendMicro subscription when it comes due in October. Uhhh..no, not sure that's a good idea. So be aware that when you go to HP Customer Service it might not actually be HP you are communicating with. Check and double check..

True - pure Scam.

Every company, HP included, is plagued by scam sites all over the Internet.

Rats will post, claim, promise, threaten, beg, and pretend to be what they are not.

f you let thieves into your computer, you might have bigger problems than a cancelled check.

Contact your bank -- see if they want to help.

HP Support does not post free-to-find phone numbers on the Internet.

HP Support does not transfer you to scammers and thieves,

HP Support does not threaten, promise, lie, beg, or cajole,

HP Support does not sneak into your computer,

HP Support does not track you,

HP Support does not sell any products to clear your computer of imaginary bugs.

HP Support does not want to sell you security software.

HP Support requires that you submit your online in-Warranty Repair request to the proper channel for your region.

Beware of Fake Sites

The "Real Deal"

123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

https://123.hp.com/

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!
