Hello and good afternoon, Community Peoples.....
I have posted several times this week regarding problems getting an OfficeJet Pro 8210 installed. My last post was today, Oct 15, 2001, at 09:21 AM.
I called. I don't know who it was, but this person wanted me to connect my computer to the internet. That's not possible since it is not allowed here, it is forbidden, it could get me fired and expose me to possible legal action. I told them that, twice, and then they asked me for a one-time charge of $50 to get the problem fixed over the phone by another technician.
Yeah I didn't do that either.
What's interesting is that when I came back to the Community site that reply was no longer attached to my post.
So.....that happened. Just thought you should know.
Me? I'll be moving on, since I have tried unsuccessfully several times to get software and help installing this printer. I'll probably scrap this one and buy another one, and lots and lots and lots of ink, from another company.
Oh and one last thing. I would be remiss if I failed to say thanks to one person who really did try to help (you know who you are). I really did appreciate your efforts.
Have a good weekend, everyone, and be careful here.

True - In spite of the efforts to prevent rats from squeezing through the foundation,
In spite of the methods used to prevent infiltration,
The occasional rat manages to get in temporarily and spread their unique form of filth.
This happens not just in our forum, of course, but it is unpleasant when it happens in our own yard, so-to-speak.
All Rats and Scammers are tossed out as soon as discovered.
All "Rat" messages are deleted as part of the extermination process.
True - In spite of the warnings not to call unsolicited phone numbers OR any numbers posted in messages,
In spite of warnings not to answer posted email addresses,
Once in a while, someone still calls the number or emails the thief.
The potential victim is pressed to provide access into their computer so the thief can steal whatever they can find, provide personal information, and give money (in some form - and yes, some thieves claim to take all sorts of "payment").
Conversing with these thieves emboldens them, of course, and they offer whatever they can to trick the unwary customer.
At least you figured out to hang up and NOT give access to your computer or give out your private information.
Yes, it would be better if it did not happen at all and that rats never managed to get into the Community.
Finally,
Brand new printer is covered by Warranty - even to the extent of making sure the printer can be installed / set up. In my opinion: Someone should have suggested that you contact HP Support and open a case.
I will send your concerns to the Moderator group.

Thanks for the info and insights, Dragon-Fur. New to the Community and its workings, and incredibly frustrated by a printer problem that apparently has no solution, I was caught off guard. That won't happen again.
Best,
Mike

You are welcome.
Yes, when we are already in trouble and we see a message that claims that the sender promises help it can be hard to slow down and think about the source.
There is an entire industry of scams built on the psychology of how people respond to stress and to hope.
You are NOT the only one to be almost caught by this type of trick.
I am sorry we cannot stop every incursion - the tools improve, the scammers improve, the tools improve... round and round.
Don't give up - there is certainly a solution to the printer issue.
Do contact HP Support to submit a Warranty hardware repair request.
Good Luck.
