I downloaded HP Scan and Print Doctor then tried to install it (HPPSdr.ex). it went though the verification OK but afterwards it presented me with a start screen ,it could not find my printer and there was no start button.
I'm connected to the internet by LAN .
My printer works OK but not through HP Solution Centre and can't therefore do any maintanance tasks . Hope someone can solve this problem please ?

Hello, @Fred-1
Thanks for the update 🙂
It looks like the PSDR is not compatible with some of the programs on your PC. That could explain why the PSDR is not correctly only on your computer.
The only thing I can suggest is to completely remove the program from your PC and then try reinstalling. You can try using the Microsoft Fix it an application which helps you in fixing the install / uninstall issues on your Windows PC. Learn more about it here: http://hp.care/2dHImNI
Please note, HP Print and Scan Doctor is simply an automated tool designed to support and troubleshoot any print related issues. But this does not, in any way, is responsible for printing or scanning on your computer. Hence, it does not affect the printer functionality in any way.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Hello, @Fred-1 – Hope you are well 🙂
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.
I understand that you are having issues while using the solution center on your Photosmart printer. You simply need to reinstall the full-feature software to get this issue fixed 🙂 Here are the steps:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries (including the solution center) and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL30154/mp-74950-2/AIO_CDA_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe to download and install the printer drivers.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
- Restart the PC and try opening the Solution center and check.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂

THANK YOU FOR THE PROMPT REPLY -I did what you said but alas the same problem arose - went to the toolbox tried to clean the head print a diagnostic page -print a test page etc. non of them worked. It said '' the computer is unable to establish two way comunication with this DEVICE''.
The main program did recognise my laptop i think, because when it asked me to plug it in- windows loaded the drivers and then your program completed the installation.
So I downloaded and insalled the scan and print Doctor v5 manually putting C3180 in the search box because your auto system could not find it,then it wold not work- just a screen saying press 'start' and choose your program-I would think it should have found it automatically. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT EVERYTHING WORKED SOME MONTHS AGO.
I hope you can help me solve this problem .
Yours Sincerly.

Hi -Thanks for help- i´ve read your suggestion on the similar post .
I noticed it was on an HP computer- mine is a Samsung - does it make any difference - It looks a complicated proceedure and could mess up my other important programs and dowloads etc. Are there any easier alternative suggestions you can recomend please? I also don´t have a logon screen with password-it goes straight to windows

Thank you for the update,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
If it isn't HP, I would recommend you contact the manufacturer of that PC so that they may assist you in reinstalling windows and then installing the latest version of the HP Print and scan doctor,
If the issue persists or you are not comfortable with reinstalling windows, please use the HP support assistant instead.
To answer your question it doesn't matter if you don't have a login screen, you should be able to complete the other steps regardless of it.
You could also create a new user account profile on your computer and then install the software to check if it works,
If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

THANKS wery much for your help'
You gave me enough ideas to try things.( my pc was in limbo for 2 days) whilst I cleared all HP ITEMS -UNINSTALLED, DELETED and cleared all temp files, cleaned the registry , old files and empty folders- then restarted pc - then reinstalled through HP support assistantand it all worked well to print and scan through my laptop.I noticed that P&S Doctor is version 4.9.again I hope v 5.0 will not be automatically istalled as it did not work before -my printer is over 10 years old and wondered if that was the reason these errors came about. Can you enlighten me please?

Hello, @Fred-1
Thanks for the update! Glad to know that the printer is printing and scanning now! Great job 🙂
Recently HP PSDR went through an update from version 4.9 to 5.0. Version 5.0 is only compatible with Windows 7 onwards.
Please download the new version from here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe
You can confirm the new version based on the size of the Binary File (10.3 MB). Just download and execute the file found here and please disregard the self-update screen if you get any.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂
