HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw
Android 9.0 Pie

I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw and want to enable the built-in app for scanning to Google Drive.

It can be activated from the address: https://www.google.com/device

There I get a message that this app is unsafe and therefore blocked.

Are you at HP aware of this?

Are there any plans to update the app to meet HP's secure login requirements?

I'm aware that there are several threads on the same topic, but I haven't found any with answers from HP.

Hello @AreHVestrum,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

We are sorry that you are having trouble with the google drive.

However, the issue you're experiencing where the app is marked as "unsafe" is related to changes in Google's security policies, which sometimes block certain apps for not meeting their updated security requirements. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Ensure Printer Compatibility and Network Connection:

    • Make sure that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw is compatible with the Google Drive app. This printer supports Web Services, which is required for using the app.
    • Connect your printer to a network with an active internet connection. Web Services must be enabled for this setup.
  2. Enabling the Google Drive App:

    • On your printer's control panel, locate the Google Drive app.
    • Obtain your printer's activation code from the Account Setup screen on the printer.
    • Using a computer or mobile device, sign in to your Google account and visit the website https://www.google.com/device.
    • Enter the activation code provided by the printer at the prompt on Google’s website.
  3. Security Considerations:

    • If Google Drive app is being blocked due to security concerns, it might be due to updated Google policies on app security.
    • Check if there are any permissions or additional security settings within your Google Account that need to be configured to allow third-party access.
  4. Alternative Solutions:

    • If you continue to face issues, consider using HP Shortcuts via the HP Smart app, which can also facilitate scanning to your Google Drive.
    • For more detailed assistance, you may also reach out to the HP Support service for guidance specific to this problem.

By following these steps, your printer should be able to use the Google Drive app to scan documents directly to your Google Drive account.
