I'm using OfficeJet 8720, 8730 and 8740 printers with my MacBook Pro.
After updating my Mac to MacOS 14.1.2 Sonoma the scanning on the 8730 and 8740 printers doesn't work with Image Capture app. On the 8720 it works fine
Is there any solution?

Hi @hden,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Do not worry, I'd be happy to help you!
This could be a compatibility issue.
Try HP Easy Start. HP Easy Start is the new way to set up your HP printer and prepare your Mac for printing. HP Easy Start will locate and install the latest software for your printer and then guide you through printer setup. Click here
Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for your intention to help.
The HP Easy Start is not new and I have tried the process several times.
The OfficeJet 8700 series printers are very reliable and I have the 8720/8730/8740 on various sites.
The problems started after we upgraded the MacOS on our MacBooks to Sonoma. The 8720 works fine, but the 8730/8740 won't scan in a simple way, just by using it with HP Smart. This is not a good solution.
I have now discovered that they still work on a basic Mac Mini. There is very little software installed on it. I don't even have Norton on it. Can Norton cause this problem?

Hi Elohi
I tried again. I have uninstalled all HP software from my Mac using HP Easy Start.
I have reset the Printing System from the Printers & Scanners pane of the System Settings.
After that I tried to install the printer using the HP Easy Start. It has found my printer and tried to "Download and Install the recommended software...". However, it ended with an error message saying "Cannot obtain software information".
I then installed my printer After that from the Printers & Scanners section of the System Settings. The printing function works but the scan function doesn't.
I don't understand why to use the HP Smart app. It's scanning functions are very poor.
