Scan to Network Folder Authentication

Set-up of 'Scan to Network Folder'  always ends with

"Incorrect User Name or Password".  Suspect problem

is with Authentication. Specifically what must be

entered to get authentication?? Have tried dozens of

combinations with no success !!

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately . .

I have watched that video, probably 6 times. The problem is that it does not tell

what User Name and Password to use.  I have tried a dozen or more combinations

with no success. I tried the same password and user name that I had used to

set-up "Scan to E-mail" that wored just fine. This problem had stumped me for

over a month !!

Hi @Soapy1928 

That's the username for your Windows login and the password.  It's the Windows login credentials.

Just to clarify, scan to folder requires you to use a user name and password that has rights to access the folder you want to scan to. If that is your computer, then you would use the user name and password that you use to login to your computer. In some cases you may need to use the following syntax for username

Computername\username 

The reason for this is it tells Windows to check the list of users on that computer to confirm those credentials are valid to write to the folder.

Good morning Repairatrooper,

Admittedly my experience is hardware, so I am having trouble understanding some of these software terms.

It sounded as if I needed a password for my computer. Perhaps the problem is that my 'computer' is actually

a Work Station (HP Z220). This does not NEED a password. Two passwords can be set up, One for the Power On and the second to access the BIOS to make changes. Thinking that might be the solution, Passwords were established on the

Work Station. Using either of these did not provide a 'correct" user name and password.

What should I be using for the User Name in the authentication step? The computer name (Rip-Z220)  was tried with a couple of variations (Rip-Z220\scan  -  Rip-Z220\I:\Scan). THe message "Incorrect User Name or Password" is sort of

burned into my mind - - I have seen it so many times.

The problem is SOLVED !!!

Since all the computers I have ever used, just started and ran as soon as the software was loaded

I never realized that computers have a name and may use a password. Going through Control

Panel, a name was set-up and a password selected. Using that - - the set-up for "Scan to Network

Folder" was unbelievably quick and simple.
