Microsoft Windows 11

For my HP7740 printer, I need to make changes to the destination folders for 'Scan to Network Folder', however this setup is missing from the HP Smart or the Web Server setings experiences. I only see the scan to Computer - Webscan feature but the Scan to Network Folder experience is missing. I have tried Scan Assistant, HP SMart, and the Web Server of the printer itself. No luck.

I must have had that at one time since ther are destinations showing up in the printer however I can find no way to update them.

WHat am I missing or what do I not have that I should?

Not sure -- According to the documentation I found,

SMTP Scan to Network Folder is not included in this model series.

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

Digital Sending Standard FeaturesScan to PC; Scan to Memory Device; Scan to email

The user manual appears to conflict with this information -

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 7740

Pages 8-9

Perhaps one or more specific printers in this model series does support the feature.  ?

Datasheet - HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One

The Datasheet lacks any mention of Digital send for Scan to Email OR Scan to Network

Digital sending standard features:  Scan to PC; Scan to Memory Device

There is a setting in EWS > Settings > Security > Administrator Settings that enables / disables printer features.

This is likely NOT the issue -- The information is provided FYI in case needed.

Example - EWS - Standard EWS for InkJet - Security > Administrator Settings - Webscan plus partial list

Example - EWS - Standard EWS for InkJet - SMTP Scan to Network Folder Profile

EWS_9025_Scan_to_Network_Folder_16EWS_9025_Scan_to_Network_Folder_16

If EWS Digital Send / SMTP Scan to Network Folder is missing,

Are there alternatives?

----------------------------------------------------

HP Smart - Shortcuts -

The HP Smart application includes a Shortcuts mechanism that can save content to supported Cloud account destinations.

No, this is not Scan to Network Folder --

It's a method to save content as described and, under certain circumstances, might suffice for what you want.

HP Scan - Full Driver Printer Software -

Scan and save to a Shared and Mapped network location on your computer is supported as part of HP Scan.

HP Scan can be set to use the Shared folder as a "save" destination.

HP Scan does not seem to be able to find the scanner itself or using the IP address of the HP7740. Does this mean the feature is not at all supported for the 7740? Certainly a tragedy givgn the nature of the beast.

The other thing is that there are currenty network folders visible on the printer that I set up at some time however can;t seem to find any of the HP softeare that let me do that and later installs of HP Smart or the Scanning software have been unsuccessful getting to those settings. I just seem to be missing something in the mass of HP software that should work.

Well, we are both confused.

Perhaps another Expert can do a better job understanding what you are seeing and what is happening.

A final try...

The user manual does not claim to support what you say you have set up in the past for Digital Send "Scan to Network" Profiles in EWS.

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 7740

I do not have a way around that -- I don't have access to your printer model.

?

I think it likely I do not understand what you are saying.

Sorry for the confusion.

HP Scan has naught to do with EWS (Embedded Web Server) SMTP Profiles for Scan to Network.

Start here:

HP Document - How to Scan

HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows, Mac, Mobile) | HP® Customer Support

============================================

HP Scan is part of the full driver printer software --

HP Scan is installed when the full driver printer software is installed on your computer.

It is not software that is driven / used with the printer's IP address.

If you cannot use HP Scan, it is perhaps because your full driver printer software is not installed OR the software is installed but has become unusable for some reason.

HP Scan does not support the Scan to Network folder as you would see / use the feature in EWS.

HP Scan would normally support Scanning and saving to a Shared and mapped folder destination on your computer.

I can provide the full driver software web pack location and the general instructions to (re)install that software.

Installing the printer software is not related to Digital Send / SMTP Scan to Network folder Profile creation -- it is related to whether you can use HP Scan.

I cannot explain what you are seeing - and cannot see it for myself.

Printer Software

If you have not yet done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.

No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.

Reinstalling?

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.
  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Webpage - Information - Download / Save / (then) Install <<<

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

  • Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
  • HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model

OR

  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan - Shortcut named for itself

AND / OR

  • When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Or

HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Thanks for your responses and patience. Sorry for the confusion.

I tried HP Scan and it said the imaging device was not found, WHen I went further in HP Scan to have it find the device using the IP address, it couldn't find it.

I tried HP Scan Assistant that also didn;t find the printer even using the IP address.

I tried HP Scanner Tools and Utilities and it simly said the connected device does not have STU support, whatever that means.

The printer is working as a printer and is recognized by Windows ok at the stated IP address.

And the EWS does not even list Scan to Network as an option under Scan.

It's like the device doesn;t support Scan to Network Folder which I could believe if I hadn;t used it int he past with that capability and the printer panel shows two network folders configured so was able to, at one time, set those up. I need to change those but again, no where in any of th software I see can I get to them again.

I have also installed, through my ramblings,  Full_Webpack-40.16.1234_1-OJ7740_Full_Webpack, HPEasyStart_16_8_12, and HPPSdr. I've probably coinfused things with all my experimentation.

Just as a side note, I also run an HP8720 on my network and am able to support Scan to Network Folder just fine. It gives me the ability, through the EWS, to fully configure Scan to Network Folder. That stuff is just not shown in the EWS for the 7740. But agin, it must have been at some time becuse I have scan to network folders showing int he printer panel.

Argh.
