HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg

I have an HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg. The printer has been added to WIndows as an WSD printer and a scanning profile has been configured in the Windows Control Panel.

When i push the "Scan Button" on the printer (button 9 acc. to the HP reference manual, i.e. the lowest button on the right of the display) we end in an endless loop. More precisely, the following happes:

1. I push the button "Scan" on the printer (button #9)

2. The display of the printer shows: "Ready for scan" (1st line) and "Print to WSD" (2nd line)

3. I push the button "OK" on the printer

4. The display of the printer shows: "WSD-PC list" (1st line) and "my-pc-name/ip"

5. Ie push the button "OK" on the printer; the printer jumps back to step #2, but nothing else happens; in particular, the scan does not start

The fact that the printer shows the correct IP-Address of the Windows host tells me, that the network settings are all fine and that the PC and printer are connected.

I also can print and scan (initiated from the Scan-Software in the PC).

I already tried to uninstall an re-install the printer an all corresponding software (e.g. Smart App).

I also used my username to log in in Smart App.

Why doesn't it work?

                 Hello BKanngiesser,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing scanning issues with your HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg printer.

Please follow the steps listed below to uninstall and reinstall HP Smart App:

Step 1: Uninstall HP Smart App.

1. Navigate to and open Settings

2. Select Apps or Application Manager from the device Settings

3. Select HP Smart

4. Select Uninstall

Step 2: Reinstall HP Smart App.

1. Download the HP Smart app from  123.hp.com  (Android, Apple iOS, iPad OS),

or  HP Smart - Microsoft Store  (Windows),

or  HP Smart - Mac App Store  (Mac).

2. Open the HP Smart app.

3. The app searches for recently installed printers.

- If your printer displays, click it. If you are setting up a new printer, it might display with Set-Up under the name.

- If your printer does not display, click the Plus sign, and then follow the on-screen prompts to add your printer or set up a new printer.

As i already wrote, all the suggested solutions doesn´t solve the issue.

EDIT:

I found a newer Firmware and installed it. Since then, there are no WSD-Clients listed in the Printer-Menu "Scan-to-WSD".

I also tried another PC an the issue exists also on Windows 11.
