HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

I cannot enable Scan to editable text (OCR) in HP Smart or the HP Scan app. I've followed the instruction here:

HP printers - Scan as Editable Text (OCR) with HP Scan (Windows) | HP® Support

and this does not work.

I still only have this after following the instructions, no OCR:

HP Scan snip.png

This program appears in the Add or Remove programs list on my PC:

HP OCR snip.png

This is not an executable program that I can find on my PC. What is it, and how do I integrate it into HP Scan or use it for OCR? There is an HP OCR folder that contains numerous BIN, DAT and other type files, but no executable applications. This program was installed with the full HP driver pack for my printer.

Help is appreciated.

@GJSchmidt, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you're experiencing issues with enabling Scan to Editable Text (OCR) using HP Smart or the HP Scan app, here are some steps and considerations to help resolve the problem:

Check Software Installation: Ensure that the HP OCR software is properly installed on your computer. Even though it may appear in your Add or Remove Programs list, it might not be functioning correctly. Consider reinstalling the OCR software to ensure it integrates properly with HP Scan.

Update HP Software: Make sure that the HP Smart and HP Scan apps are updated to the latest versions, as updates often resolve compatibility and functionality issues.

Verify OCR Settings: Double-check the OCR settings in your HP Scan app. Sometimes, the settings may be defaulted to non-editable formats, and manual adjustment might be required.

Software Compatibility: Ensure that your operating system supports the OCR feature. HP's OCR software generally supports Windows operating systems, so make sure your system meets the necessary requirements.

Set Correct Scan Parameters: When setting up the scan, ensure that you select the option for OCR or Scan to Editable Text (OCR) within the scanning software interface.

Check for Conflicts: If multiple scan applications or drivers are installed, they might conflict with each other. Ensure only the necessary HP drivers and software are active.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
