HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e All-in-One Printer

I'm using a Mac desktop with OS 13.4.1, and a new HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e. Trying to scan and email a 13-page document in PDF. When I scan it and save it to my computer, the PDF is 34MB, too big to email. I understand there is a way to set up my HP Smart to scan and email the document in one step. I can't find instructions in the manual for the printer. Any suggestions?

Hi @Livewire293,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To scan and email a document directly from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e with your Mac, you can use the HP Smart app. Follow these steps to set up and use HP Smart to achieve this.

Install HP Smart App:

  • If you haven't already, download and install the HP Smart app on your Mac from the Mac App Store.

Open HP Smart:

  • Launch the HP Smart app on your Mac.

Add Your Printer:

  • Click the "+" button or "Add Printer" in HP Smart to add your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the app.

Scan the Document:

  • Place the 13-page document in the scanner feeder of your HP printer.

Scan Settings:

  • In HP Smart, select the scanning option. You may need to navigate through the app's interface to find the scanning option.
  • Set your preferred scan settings such as resolution (choose a lower resolution to reduce file size), color mode (black and white or grayscale may reduce file size), and scan format (PDF).

Scan and Email:

  • After configuring your scan settings, initiate the scan process from within HP Smart.
  • Once the scan is complete, the app should provide an option to email the scanned document. Select this option.

Compose Email:

  • HP Smart should open your default email client (e.g., Apple Mail) and attach the scanned PDF.
  • Compose the email, add the recipient's address, subject, and any additional message, then click "Send."

By following these steps, you should be able to scan and email your document directly from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e using the HP Smart app, and it should help reduce the file size of the scanned PDF, making it easier to send via email.

Remember that adjusting the scan settings, such as using a lower resolution and grayscale mode, can significantly reduce the file size while maintaining acceptable document quality for email purposes. If the file is still too large after scanning, you can consider using online PDF compression tools to further reduce its size before sending.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden, The scan/email process on my new OfficeJet Pro 8034e is not as simple as your reply suggests. First challenge: Printer not found. "Click on "Printer not Listed." OK. Turn on Bluetooth and allow access when prompted. (No allow access appeared).

Out of nowhere HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series scanner appears. The app resembles Image Capture. I'm used to Image Capture.  It scans beautifully using document feeder. After a search for the title I find it saved in Documents. It opens in Preview (a Mac application). I can share it from there. That's OK, I can make it work in a Mac app. Does it bear any relationship to HP Smart? Perhaps HP Smart understands Apple's Mac software. It would be nice if they acknowledged same.
