My color Laser jet Pro MFP M277dw scanner suddenly is not working with my MAC desktop. I cannot scan documents. I got 2 messages on my screen. The first one stated : Legacy System Extension. Existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by"HP Inc" which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS. Contact developer for support. The second message: Scanner reported an error. Operation couldn't be completed. The first 2 documents , I was able to scan and saved to a folder. However I cannot open the document and my recipient was not able to see the document as well. I tried again but this time the document was not scanned at all. Please help.

Hi @junjinav,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

To address the issue of your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw scanner not working with your macOS, follow these steps:

Install HP Smart

  • Open the Mac App Store.
  • Search for HP Smart and install it.
  • Launch HP Smart → Add Printer → follow prompts to connect.
  • HP Smart uses modern APIs and doesn’t rely on legacy extensions.

Update macOS

  • Update macOS: Make sure your macOS is updated to the latest version. Sometimes compatibility issues arise due to outdated system software.

Use Image Capture

  • Open Image Capture: Use the Image Capture program available in macOS.
  • Loading Originals: Place the originals face-up in the document feeder or place a single original face-down on the scanner glass and close the document feeder.
  • Select Device: Open the Applications folder and launch Image Capture. Select your device from the list under SHARED.
  • Set Scan Options: Adjust the scan settings as needed.
  • Scan and Save: Proceed with scanning and save the scanned image.

Verify Printer Driver and Software

  • Install Latest Drivers: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software specific to the Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw for macOS.
  • Reinstall Drivers: If you have the latest drivers installed, consider uninstalling and reinstalling them to fix any corrupted files.

Take care and have an amazing day!
