HP Officejet pro600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have used my HP Officejet Pro 8600 a long time with Windows 10 but suddenly the scan function stopped to work. The printing function still works.

The HP Scan app displays the error message: The HP Officejet Pro was not found.

The Windows Fax and Scan app displays the error message: No scanners were detected.

If I start a scan to computer in the printer/scanner the computer displays the error message: The HP Officejet Pro was not found.

I am running Windows 10 fully updated. Windows Image Acquisition is running. The printer is wireless. I have uninstalled all the printer software and installed it again but still the same problem.

I can still scan to a laptop using windows 7 i.e nothing wrong with the printer.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer connected to the wifi. I read that the printer is unable to scan from your Win10 computer and vice versa. However, the printer does scan to a laptop using Win7. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details: To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time the scanning worked on your Win10 PC?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the Win10 PC post which the scanning might have stopped?
  • Did you try to disable the firewall on your Win10 PC and check if that helps?

Meanwhile, I did some research and suggest you to perform the following steps to fix the issue:

  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

A Firewall software helps block threats from outside your network, but some settings or configurations can block communication with network printers. Use the Print and Scan Doctor to identify and temporarily disable firewall software on your computer.

  1. Return to the Print and Scan Doctor, click Network, and then click Troubleshoot Firewalls.

Figure : Troubleshoot Firewalls in the drop-down menu

Image: Click Troubleshoot Firewalls in the drop-down menu.
  2. Click the name of any firewall software on your system that has an Enabled status, and then click Disable.

Figure : Example of the Troubleshooting Firewalls window

  3. Try to scan.

    • If you can scan, consult the firewall software support site to change settings such as security level, trusted zones, and open ports to allow communication with your printer. After changing the settings, re-enable the firewall in the Print and Scan Doctor.

    • If you cannot scan, the firewall software is not causing the issue. Re-enable the firewall in the Print and Scan Doctor, and then continue to the next step.

You may also download and use the HP Scan and Capture app to scan.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
