Officejet Pro 9015e

Suddenly today I cannot scan.  It gives an error "Scanning is currently unavailable".   NONE of the suggestions given on the support page were of any help.  I re-installed the printer, re-installed the HP smart app, re-setup the printer, updated windows and print drivers, etc.   I have tried connecting by network and by USB.   Every other feature for the printer works.   Scanning DOES work thru the windows fax and scan app,  it just will NOT work in the HP APP.   It seems that something is wrong with the HP software.   I also have a 4155 printer and it has the exact same problem, so this really seems like an HP software issue.    When will they release a new version that works?    How can I get this to work again?

Ideas -  FYI

Ignore what you don't like, have already tried, or believe to be unrelated.

In general, HP Smart is not meant to be at it's best using an USB connection.

Many features won't work.

I've read that it's possible to use HP Smart in Windows with a USB connection -- I've never seen it.

Not Just "Windows"

  • Check that your printer connection is set to the SSID named network and frequency you want it to use.

What?

If your router supports it,

Create a separate SSID named network for each frequency

Connect the printer to the frequency / band you want it to use.

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster

Next,

  • Assign a manual / static IP address to the printer to help stabilize the connection.
  • Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network
  • Check -- Every device (computers and mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device type.

=======================================

The following section is relevant to Windows.

At this writing

HP Smart Windows - Version:  144.1.1068.0

If you believe the issue is within the HP Smart application in Windows,

  • Check / Run Windows Updates - Restart the computer for any Pending updates
  • Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network
  • Check HP Smart - If it won't open or hangs part way, Close the app
  • Reset the HP Smart application
  • Check the app
  • If the Reset by itself does not work, Uninstall the app > Restart the computer and log in
  • Change the connection type to TCP/IP
  • Assign a manual / static IP address to the printer to help stabilize the connection.
  • Install a fresh copy of the app from the Microsoft Store

What else?

You have the option to install and use the Full Feature Software.

True, installing the full driver printer software is unlikely to fix HP Smart.

Installing the full driver includes HP Scan and provides a foundation for installing and using other Scan software.

What?

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

Installed full driver printer software adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:

  • Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan
