HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw

I still cannot get this printer/scanner to scan a photograph and send it to my computer. I can print from this computer just fine. Has anyone else found this unnecessarily complicated??  I got this printer/scanner in large part so I could start scanning my old photographs, but this is ridiculous.

Hi @breakerbum,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the scanning.

To get your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw printer/scanner to scan photographs and send them to your Mac running macOS 12.0, you can follow these steps:

Ensure the Printer is Set Up Correctly:

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac. You can check the printer’s network status from its control panel.

Install or Update HP Smart App:

  • If you haven’t already, download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. This app often provides the easiest way to scan documents and photos.
  • Make sure the app is updated to the latest version.

Use the HP Smart App to Scan:

  • Open the HP Smart app and ensure it recognizes your printer. If not, click the + button to add it.
  • Click on the Scan option.
  • Select the Photo option for scanning photographs.
  • Choose your scan settings (resolution, file format, etc.) and click Scan.
  • After scanning, you should see an option to save the scanned photo to your computer. Choose the desired location.

Scan Using Preview:

  • Alternatively, you can use the built-in Preview app:
    • Open Preview from your Applications folder.
    • Go to File > Import from Scanner.
    • Select your printer from the list.
    • Choose the Scan option, adjust your settings, and click Scan.
    • Once the scan is complete, save the file to your desired location.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @breakerbum,

Please find the next steps below.

Check Scanner Settings:

  • If scanning still doesn’t work, check the printer’s settings:
    • Make sure that the scanning function is enabled. You can do this from the printer’s control panel or web interface.

Install Latest Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.

Use HP Easy Scan (if applicable):

  • If you have the HP Easy Scan application, you can also try using that to scan photos. Open HP Easy Scan, select your printer, and follow the prompts to scan.

Reboot Everything:

  • If you still face issues, try restarting your printer and Mac. Sometimes a fresh start can resolve connectivity problems.

If you follow these steps and are still having trouble scanning, let's try NVRAM reset and see if that helps as a last resort.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

Please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
