Welcome to HP Support Community, @Terry-kungfugir

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Step 1: Basic Power Reset

Press the Power button once to see if the printer turns off.

If it does not turn off, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall first, then into the printer.

Turn on the printer and check if it passes the “Verifying” screen.

Step 2: Disconnect All External Connections

Before continuing, disconnect:

USB cable

Any USB storage devices

Stop Wi-Fi temporarily if the printer was updating

Sometimes a failed communication or update causes the freeze.

Step 3: Try to Access the Cartridges

Open the ink access door.

Turn the printer on with the door open.

Wait a few seconds to see if the carriage moves.

If the carriage does not move, do not force it.
Proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Forced Reset With Door Open

Leave the printer turned on.

Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.

Open the ink access door.

Gently try to move the carriage.

If it moves, reseat the cartridges.

If it does not move, stop immediately.

Reconnect the power and try to turn the printer on again.

Step 5: Reseat the Cartridges (Only If You Can Access Them)

Remove all cartridges.

Wipe the gold contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Reinstall each cartridge firmly.

Close the door and restart the printer.

Step 6: Check for Firmware Update (Only If Printer Starts)

If the printer boots normally after the reset, check for updates:

Using HP Smart app:

Open printer settings → Advanced settings → Tools → Firmware Update

Using the printer screen:

Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer → Check for Updates

Step 7: Reset Network Settings

If the printer seems to freeze during startup due to a network problem:

Go to Setup

Network Setup

Restore Network Settings

Restart the printer

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
