Hi @Pao777,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you want to open an HP account and register a second-hand printer. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed:
Do you see a message saying the printer is already registered to another account?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an HP Account

  • Go to the HP website.
  • Click Sign in.
  • Select Create account.
  • Enter your email and create a password.
  • Verify your email.
  • This creates your personal HP account.

Step 2: Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • This is important for second-hand printers.
  • Turn the printer ON.
  • Go to Setup (gear icon).
  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Choose Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset.
  • This removes previous Wi-Fi and account settings.

Step 3: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  • After reset, wait for the wireless light to blink.
  • Open the HP app on your computer or phone.
  • Select Set up a new printer.
  • Follow the instructions to connect it to your network.

Step 4: Add Printer to Your HP Account

  • Sign in to the HP app.
  • Select Add Printer.
  • Follow prompts to register the printer.

Important Note for Second-Hand Printers

If the printer was enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink under the previous owner’s account, it must be removed from their account before you can fully register it. Factory reset alone may not remove HP+ enrollment.

If you see a message like “Printer already claimed” or “Linked to another account,” tell me the exact wording and your printer model so I can guide you correctly.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
