HP LaserJet Pro M15a Printer

hello everyone. I have an HP LaserJet Pro M15a printer which until a few days ago with sequoia 15.0.1 worked without any problem but now with the update to 15.1 it no longer works. The printer is recognized, found, but remains idle and does not print. I can't find the drivers, can someone help me please?
Thank you

Hi @StepLabStudio,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your HP LaserJet Pro M15a printer after updating to Sequoia 15.1, where the printer is recognized but remains idle and does not print. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Reinstall the Printer Driver:

  • Uninstall the existing driver for the HP LaserJet Pro M15a from your system.
  • Go to the HP Support page for LaserJet Pro M15a and search for the latest drivers for your operating system.
  • Download and install the driver manually instead of relying on Sequoia’s update to handle the installation.

Check Printer Spooler:

  • Sometimes the print spooler service may be stuck. To reset it:
    1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
    2. Scroll down and find the Print Spooler service.
    3. Right-click on it and select Restart.
  • After restarting the spooler, try printing again.

Check Sequoia Compatibility:

  • Sequoia 15.1 might have compatibility issues with your printer's driver. Try reverting back to Sequoia 15.0.1, as it was working for you before.
  • If reverting isn't possible, check Sequoia's official forums or support channels to see if others are facing similar issues with Sequoia 15.1 and the LaserJet Pro M15a.

Use the HP Universal Print Driver (if available):

  • If the specific driver is not available, try using the HP Universal Print Driver, which is designed to work with many HP printers.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes a firmware update on the printer can fix issues. Check if there is a newer firmware version for your HP LaserJet Pro M15a by visiting the HP support website and following the instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi and thanks for replying to me. Let's try to solve the problem together.

I uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled the driver which on the site is updated as of October 31, 2023 MAC OS14.
The download is called HP EASY START.
Followed the whole procedure, recognized the printer, at the best part it stops saying to contact HP assistance.
Hence the total darkness.

Going forward win+r I think they are Windows keys and not Mac, otherwise can you explain how to do it?

I don't want to go back to the previous version because the PC with the updates has better performance, I hope you can understand me.

Regarding hardware and firmware can you tell me step by step how to do it?
thanks my friend

Hi @StepLabStudio,

Thank you for your response,

Thank you for providing all the details about your issue. It sounds like you’ve tried a lot of initial troubleshooting steps, and I can guide you through advanced steps to get your HP LaserJet Pro M15a working with Sequoia 15.1 on your updated macOS.

Here’s a breakdown of steps that should help.

Uninstall HP Easy Start and Any Existing Printer Drivers

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
  • Select your printer, then click on Remove Printer (-) to delete it from the list.
  • Next, ensure all HP files are removed by deleting HP folders from Library > Printers and Library > Application Support.
  • Restart your Mac.

Install the Latest Driver Using HP Easy Start

  • Download HP Easy Start directly from HP's support page and run the setup.
  • Go through the setup until the point where it stops. Take note of any error messages.
  • If it fails again, download and install the standalone HP Printer Drivers for macOS (not through HP Easy Start). This driver should be compatible with your printer and macOS 14.

Restart Printer System on macOS

This is a deeper reset that can resolve compatibility issues:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or press Control and click) in the printer list, then select Reset Printing System. This will remove all printers and reset all printing settings.
  • Reinstall your printer using HP Easy Start or add it manually.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your LaserJet Pro M15a.
  • Follow the instructions for updating your printer firmware using a USB connection or wireless method (if available).

Enable Compatibility Mode (If Applicable)

  • Sometimes, HP provides compatibility settings for macOS in HP Easy Start or in the printer's embedded settings menu.
  • Check if there’s an option for backward compatibility, or try using AirPrint instead of HP’s proprietary driver during setup.

Manually Check Print Queue and Restart Printer Processes

  • On macOS, Win+R equivalent is Command + Space to open Spotlight Search.
  • Search for Activity Monitor and open it.
  • Look for any “HP” or “Print” related processes. Select and force quit them.
  • Try printing again.

Test with HP’s Print & Scan Doctor (via Windows VM if available)

  • If you have a virtual machine (VM) with Windows on your Mac, you could try running HP Print & Scan Doctor within the VM.
  • This tool might detect the issue and suggest solutions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thank you for the answer.
i'm all set with the researches and I made the printer work.
The only problem is that, when the paper comes out of the printer, it's completely black and an orange light appears at the same time on the window in my computer next to "in use, default".

I just updated Sequioa to 15.1.1

Now HP Easy Start recognized the Printer and installed fine.
I downloaded easy Start here:

Seems to be the most current Version
