Hi: I just received my HP ENVY Inspire 7220e All-in-One Wireless Printer and have had a hellish time trying to set it up. Just problems upon problems and no help from a human. The AI/ VA tools are not useful!

First, I'm getting the message that you don't recognize my serial #,  so trying to get customer support, somebody, anybody, to help me has been futile.

Next, I'm getting a message that my cartridges are not installed despite my removing and reinstalling them 4 times. Watching installation videos even and no fix.

Then there's the message that the photo paper tray is blocked.

Seriously, could someone sort this out for me or should I just return this printer and get a refund already?

Ok so to give an update and hopefully this helps someone else in a similar situation, after getting error message after error message trying to set up this printer - the last two days the printer screen thingy was stuck on "the HP software is setting up your printer" - and trying everything from YouTube videos to contacting HP on their insta page, to recommendations on this page, I tried ChatGPT and the solution was to turn off and unplug BOTH the printer and the computer, and then restart them both. I don't know if it matters that the computer is a Mac. Perhaps it doesn't.

Before I was only turning off and unplugging the printer and that wasn't working. I was about to return the contraption and get a refund!

Well, now I'm all sorted & happy & enjoying printing stuff.

Shout out to @Hawks_Eye for hanging in there with me to deliberate a solution.

Shalom!

Hi @JUSTGETMEHELP1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing with your new HP ENVY Inspire 7220e printer. I understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially when it feels like there’s no clear solution.

Let’s work through the issues one by one to help you resolve them as quickly as possible:

Serial Number Not Recognized

  1. Double-Check the Serial Number:
    • Ensure you’re entering it exactly as it appears, including uppercase letters and any special characters.
  2. Contact HP Support:
    • If the issue persists, you’ll need to reach out to HP phone support.

Cartridges Not Recognized

  1. Clean Cartridge Contacts:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth dampened with water.
    • Reinsert the cartridges and turn the printer back on.
  2. Use Setup Cartridges:
    • Ensure you’re using the setup cartridges that came with the printer.

Photo Paper Tray Blocked

  1. Inspect for Obstructions:
    • Turn off the printer and carefully open the photo tray.
    • Remove any debris or improperly loaded paper. Make sure the tray aligns correctly when closing.
  2. Reset the Printer:
    • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
    • Wait for 60 seconds, then reconnect the cord and turn the printer back on.

This is very kind of you to respond and with such detail. The serial # issue and the cartridges issue is resolved (I hope forever!), by simply restarting the printer.

I'm still working on the photo tray issue and my hope is to get up and printing soon. I shall definitely circle back and ask for help if I continue having issues of any kind.

THANK YOU!

You are very Welcome!

I’m glad to hear that the serial number and cartridge issues are finally resolved! That’s a relief.

As for the photo tray blockage, here are a few additional steps that might help:

1. Ensure the Input Tray is Fully Closed

  • Pull the input tray out and push it back in until it locks into place.
  • Sometimes, if the tray isn’t seated properly, the printer may falsely detect a blockage.

2. Check for Hidden Obstructions

  • Turn off the printer and remove the output tray.
  • Carefully tilt the printer to its right side and inspect the gap where the input tray sits.
  • Remove any loose paper or debris that might be causing the blockage.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the cord and turn the printer back on.

I really appreciate your patience, and I hope you get up and printing soon!

If the issue persists, feel free to reach out again. 😊
