HP Recommended

In trying to gain access to “print everywhere” I ran into a problem, and in trying to get help, I tried to register my hp envy 6485e printer, only to be told that the serial number, and product number aren’t recognized.  Without them, I am unable to access any help at all, it seems.  
I am looking at the right place for them and I’ve triple checked that I’m writing it correctly.  
I’m ready to throw the lump of plastic out onto to street and become a diehard patron of Brothers, Canon or any brand other than hp.
