This printer is about to be returned. It's a LaserJet Pro 3301SDW. There are a few issues:

1) When I try to add the printer to my dashboard, it doesn't recognize the serial number. I do the HP detect. It finds the printer (with the same serial number) and I click "add to my products". It says it was added but it never shows up, it just sends me back through the process over and over. Sometimes it sends me to a page with an error message saying the page wasn't found.

2) It will not print in landscape orientation. I choose it in the basic print menu. I go to the printer settings menu to make sure it landscape is selected. The preview looks good. Everything is good to go, right? Nope. It prints the image on portrait so that the image is printed but at a much smaller size.

Hi @battoxrinter

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how disappointing it must feel to face these issues with a brand-new printer, especially after you’ve already tried adding it through detection and carefully setting up print orientation.

Thank you for the effort you’ve put in so far—it shows real persistence. Let’s go through each concern step by step:

Issue 1: Adding Printer to Dashboard

  • Open the HP App on your Windows system.
  • Go to My devices > Add device.
  • Instead of entering the serial number manually, select the printer when it appears in the detected list.
  • If the printer still loops back, try signing out of the HP App and signing back in, then repeat the add process.
  • Clear the browser cache if you are using the HP website dashboard, then retry adding the printer.

Issue 2: Landscape Printing

  • In the application you are printing from, go to Print > Printer Properties.
  • Under Layout or Orientation, select Landscape.
  • Confirm that the Paper Size matches the loaded paper (Letter, A4, etc.).
  • In the HP App, check Print Settings > Advanced and ensure orientation is set to Landscape.
  • If the preview shows correctly but output is still portrait, reinstall the printer driver:
    1. Open Devices and Printers.
    2. Remove the LaserJet Pro 3301SDW.
    3. Download and install the full driver package from HP’s support page: HP LaserJet Pro 3301sdw Printer Drivers
    4. Re-add the printer and test again.

Additional Step: Test with Another Application

  • Try printing from Word, Excel, or Adobe Reader to confirm if the issue is application-specific.
  • If landscape works in one program but not another, adjust the print settings within that specific application.

These steps should help stabilize both the dashboard recognition and the landscape printing issue. You’ve already shown great determination in troubleshooting, and with these adjustments, the printer should align better with your workflow.
