Printer is having ink cartridge issues, I created an account to contact support and I can't add my printer to my list of devices. Tried on two browsers, typed in the serial number multiple times and the website still says "Please enter a valid serial number". Its a Envy 5055 if that helps
Every time I try to print something I always have some issue. After about 30 minutes of replacing cartridges, drivers, reinstalling

Hi @hardenjb,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When an HP printer reports ink cartridge issues, it can be due to a variety of problems such as improperly installed cartridges, faulty cartridges, or issues with the printhead. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve ink cartridge issues:
Troubleshooting Steps for Ink Cartridge Issues
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Verify Installation:
- Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Open the printer’s cartridge access door and make sure each cartridge is securely seated in its slot.
- Remove the cartridges and reinsert them, making sure they click into place.
2. Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Clean Contacts:
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
3. Check for Protective Tape or Packaging
- Remove Tape:
- Ensure that all protective tape or packaging has been removed from the cartridges before installation. Sometimes, this tape can prevent proper ink flow.
4. Perform Printhead Cleaning
- Automatic Cleaning:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup or Tools.
- Select Printhead Cleaning or Clean Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Manual Cleaning (if necessary):
- If the automatic cleaning does not resolve the issue, you might need to manually clean the printhead. Refer to your printer’s manual for detailed instructions on how to safely clean the printhead.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
