HP ENVY Photo 7155
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In Windows setting\Devices\Printers&Scanners, when the (new) HP ENVY 7155 is selected, instead of "manage" button, Windows states  "App available for this device" and then "Open printer app."  But I can't find anything in the app, including printer settings, that lets me set it as the Windows default printer,  Except for this, printer is working fine, & I can select it each time I print; but that's an extra step I'd like to avoid.  Thanks in advance for any guidance on this issue.

@EmmettM,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to set the default printer in Windows 10.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  • To choose a default printer, select the Start button and then Settings. Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage. Then select Set as default. If you have Let Windows manage my default printer selected, you'll need to deselect it before you can choose a default printer on your own.
  • In Windows 10, your default can be the printer you last used. To turn on this mode, open Start and select Settings  > Devices > Printers & scanners. Select the checkbox beside Let Windows manage my default printer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Sorry, Fossette, but you seem to have missed a key phrase in my original post, viz., "when the (new) HP ENVY 7155 is selected, instead of ‘manage’ button, Windows states  ‘App available for this device’ and then ‘Open printer app.’ "

So, in your first suggested solution, the "manage" button isn't available, just the option to open the HP app.  Any further suggestions?

@EmmettM,

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
