Per the topic - I have been given a printer by my parents. They no longer had the setup cartridges. How do I set this up to work? How do I get around this strict DRM which - on the face of it - looks like it violates First Sale Doctrine rules if products are unable to be sold or given onward?

Posting support solutions in private messages doesn't help the community and should be frowned upon as a practice. The advice sent is copied below so that others can find it. Please use at your own risk, and ensure that you have the right model of printer. However, this information SHOULD be shared and available.
"Please follow the steps listed below to initialize the printer using the regular cartridges purchased from the store.
1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
2. Press and hold the Wireless button for at least three seconds.
3. Close the ink cartridge access door. An alignment page prints, indicating that the printer has initialized.
4. If the printer does not initialize, repeat these steps until it does."
