Welcome to the HP Community --

There is not a "one stop shop" setting that encompasses all printing results.

Some settings and opportunities are Printer Model dependent -- Additional settings dependent on the available tools.  For example, to change the settings for more than the current job setup, an application or software must include the concept of Custom Shortcuts or Custom Presets.

First --

Set the Default Print Options at the Printer either at the Printer Control Panel or using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).  Default Print Options include Draft and Grayscale.

Details / Examples

========================

Load Paper / Load Media

Load paper according to the instructions in

  User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 8120 - HP OfficeJet Pro 8130 Series

Starting on Page 10

Do not skip Step 6

and

Page 22

Next,

Alert the Printer to the paper loaded in the intake tray - Tray and Paper

========================

EWS - Tray and Paper

EWS > HP Document / How-to (InkJet Printers – Classic Format)

 Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

OR

 HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Reminder

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

Alternate EWS format - Select newer InkJet printers and select LaserJet printers

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray

EWS_9135_Tray_and_Paper_9EWS_9135_Tray_and_Paper_9EWS_9135_Print_Default_Print_Options_9EWS_9135_Print_Default_Print_Options_9

Next,

Whether, where, and to what extent you can set default options elsewhere depend on your Operating System / version and the applications / software available on that platform.

-- Example - Windows -- after having installed the full driver printer software --

 Printing Preferences supports the concept of creating Custom Shortcuts --

  • Settings within this category can be printer model dependent.
  • Some, but not all, settings can be configured as part of a Custom Shortcut.

Printer Properties supports selecting a Preferences Shortcut as the default for "all jobs".

=================================

Windows - Printing Preferences

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Select your printer

Select Printing Preferences

General Example -- Illustrates the process

Create a Custom Shortcut in Printing Preferences  and name it "Letter - Duplex - Black"

Starting Template / Shortcut = General Everyday Printing

Change Print in Grayscale to "Monochrome"

NOTE:  Color Choices / Options might vary according to the printer model.

Change Print on Both Sides to "Yes, flip over"

Save As (new shortcut) and name the new custom shortcut Letter - Duplex - Black

You may, if you wish, leave the new "Letter - Duplex - Black" custom Shortcut "selected" when you close Printing Preferences.  The choice of shortcut will "stick" until changed by you or by another app / program.

Example - Printing Preferences - New Custom Shortcut  - Letter - Duplex - Black

- Optional -

Set the new custom "Letter - Duplex - Black" Shortcut as the "default for all jobs" in Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults

Setting a Shortcut as the Printing Defaults choice is "mostly effective".

You should always check the settings for each job to ensure what you are getting is what you want and expect.

Example - Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults
