I actually have an Office Jet 8010e but HP can't find it when I enter the serial number. I have had this printer for about 2 years. However, my BIG problem is that every time there is a windows update, my printer goes off line. Usually, I can just revert to using the smart print instead and at some point the printer comes back online. However, this time I'm getting a printer setup incomplete error. I am connected to the internet, I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps: turned off my printer, my computer and my router. Turned them all back on, first the router, then the printer, then the laptop. I have also tried turning the laptop on before the printer and still get the error. When I try to complete the setup on the HP website it cannot find my printer when I enter the serial number. The number I am using is the number on the barcode starting with S/N:
I am a business owner and need to be able to print.

Hi @Mamej,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your HP OfficeJet 8010e. Here are steps you can take to resolve the "setup incomplete" error and reconnect your printer:
1. Check the Printer Connection
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.
- Print a network configuration page from the printer’s settings to confirm the connection.
2. Use HP Smart App for Setup
- Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP's website.
- Open the app and see if it can detect your printer. Follow the prompts to complete the setup.
3. Reset the Printer Network Settings
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Settings. This will allow you to reconnect to your Wi-Fi.
4. Remove and Re-add the Printer
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on your laptop.
- Find your printer, select it, and click Remove device.
- Add the printer again by selecting Add a printer or scanner.
5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Visit the HP Drivers page and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install them and see if that resolves the issue.
6. Check Windows Services
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Ensure that the Print Spooler service is running. If not, right-click and select Start.
7. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure your system is up to date.
8. Contact HP Support Directly
- If the serial number isn’t recognized, consider reaching out to HP support for assistance. They can help with issues regarding printer registration and connectivity.
9. Temporary Workaround
- If immediate printing is necessary, consider connecting your printer via USB temporarily until the issue is resolved.
10. Reset Printer to Factory Settings
- As a last resort, you can reset the printer to factory settings. This can usually be done through the printer's menu under Settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
