Example: Officejet 9015e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to setup my 9015e on WIN 10. Connected via ethernet to modem/router (not using wireless). When getting HP Smart from the Windows Store, I hit my problem: HP Smart has installed, but will not open correctly. When I click Launch, it opens for about one second, then winks off the screen.

The error message is "Something Unexpected Happened" with the code:  0x800700B7.

I have gone through the HP support site, but every fix I find seems to return me to the HP Smart App to repair my problem; since HP Smart won't open, I seem to be stuck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@JoeFXH

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, let's update the printer driver from here: Software and drivers for HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer, and also you can try later HP Smart server might be busy or broken.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for your post, Echo_Lake.

After I posted here, I continued to ask around elsewhere and I have managed to partially resolve my problem.

EDIT: Wrong! Please read LATER below for a confusing explanation.

Following other advice, I first uninstalled the Smart App, then I went to the hp software & downloads page and installed the Setup Software. I also updated the firmware.

This allowed me to get the printer setup and I have signed up for some ink (including 6 months of ink for free, as offered when I bought the printer).

In any case, once I had the basic setup done, I went back into The Store to collect the Smart App.  The Store tells me that I own this, but the install attempt fails (repeatedly over a couple of days). The error message provided was: "Something unexpected happened" with the code:  0x80073CFB.

I was also told that the Smart App isn't really needed to get basic print jobs done.  Please clarify this for me if you can.

LATER -- I've been looking through the manual and I am supposed to now have a Start Menu entry corresponding to my printer. I do not have such an entry. I also tried to print a short text file (Libreoffice Writer)  I had sitting on my desktop from the print icon inside that file. Nothing happened. Repeated this 3 times, but nothing happened.

After more searching, I found a different Easy Start setup file (HP_EasyStart_12_7_11.exe).

This looks like what I should have done the first time. Installing this connected me to my hp account, where I was given install options similar (not exact) to the options on the Software & Downloads page:

1) HP Smart

2) Full Software & Drivers

3) Basic Drivers

I chose #2 and it installed several things.  And 3 copies of that test text file then printed out. So something is working correctly. I allowed it to install I.R.I.S OCR as that was the only suggestion.

I now have several HP items listed in the Start Menu (as well as corresponding icons on the desktop).

This left me with a small window labeled HP Device Setup Processes which has been "running" (not sure what it's doing) for about 15 minutes. No way to interact with this window. I'll let it run while I go do other things for a while. If it has not stopped after a while, I will just reboot and see where I stand...
