At the Get HP Software screen, went to website to retrieve software. Net connection is spotty so opted to manually install using USB cable connection and followed instructions. Seemed to install completely but display window on the front of the printer continued to display the Get HP Software screen. Touching the ?, then 'continue' gives me no further useful information. Tested printer to see if it would print correctly. Yes. Tested scanner via Photoshop and it also worked.

After going through all the instructions to install the printer from the software prompts I never got a request about the ink (don't want it anyway) nor an option to register the new printer.

Rebooted computer, then rebooted the printer. The Get HP Software screen continues to appear with no acknowledgement that the software was successfully installed. Printer continues to work.

1. Is it truly completely installed?

2. How do I make the Get HP Software screen to go away/ does it need to go away?

3. Do I need to register the new printer? How?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Thanks for your thorough response. But, alas, too late.

I  called tech support on Jan 13. I spent about about 30 minutes on the phone with a very courteous tech support person who was baffled by my problem. I was placed on hold for several minutes while he consulted with someone whom he thought could help.  When he finally returned to the phone he informed me that he couldn't help me because  Win7 was an obsolete OS and no longer supported by Microsoft and told me to have a good day.

I returned the printer on Jan 14.
