@Mangud, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding short circuit in power supply!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like there may have been a short circuit when the ground wire made contact with another part of the power supply board. Here are some steps to diagnose and possibly fix the issue:

Unplug the Printer

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source immediately to prevent further damage.

Check for Visible Damage

  • Open the printer (carefully) and inspect the power supply board for any burn marks, melted components, or damaged circuits.

Smell for Burnt Components

  • If you notice a burnt smell, it could indicate a fried component, such as a fuse or capacitor.

Test the Fuse

  • Many printers have a fuse on the power supply board. Use a multimeter to check if the fuse is blown. If it is, replace it with a fuse of the same rating.

Inspect the Ground Wire Connection

  • Ensure the ground wire is properly connected to the designated spot and not touching any unintended components.

Test the Power Adapter & Cable

  • If you have a spare power cable or adapter, try using it to rule out a power supply failure.

Check for Loose Components

  • Any dislodged components should be re-secured properly.

Try a Power Reset

  • Disconnect the printer from power for 10–15 minutes, then plug it back in and test if it turns on.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
