Hi everyone, I’ve been using the Smart Tank 5105 for a year with absolutely no issues.
However, since switching to the new HP app, duplex printing no longer works.
I’ve updated the drivers and so on via the Microsoft Store.
Nothing helps; I have no way to access the settings to enable duplex printing.
Does anyone have a solution?
-----------------------------------------------------------
The HP App is essentially a wrapper -- HP Smart settings and coding are tucked into the HP App under the added / selected Printer.
Switching to the HP App, by itself, should not necessarily break your HP Smart setup.
It is possible that something is influencing how the settings are interpreted.
A Partial List...
=================================
Windows -- Printer Properties
Check Printer Properties for the assigned Driver.
The Driver should be set to your installed HP driver and not the IPP / Microsoft Drivers.
-- What? --
IPP / Microsoft Drivers do not provide access to all the printer's features, for example, Duplex and / or Color printing options.
Windows 11
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Select Printer
Printer Properties > Tab Advanced
- Driver: Select the HP driver as opposed to the Microsoft / IPP class driver
- Reprint later: Select Keep all documents
- All Jobs Default: Printing Defaults
-- Example - Printer Properties -- Driver / Printing Defaults --
① → Driver
② → Optional - Printing Defaults

Windows -- Printing Preferences
Windows 11
Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers and scanners
Check the list of devices – Select / Open Printer
Select Printing Preferences
Printing Preferences Shortcut selection "sticks" until it is changed, possibly for a different job.
Printing Preferences can always be changed "on the fly" during job configuration / setup.

Windows - Default Printer
-- Windows --
If the "problem" surfaced directly after an update -- or possibly even if no updates were applied -- check the Default Printer and the Printer Properties Driver assignments -- ensure the settings are as expected and needed.
Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”
Windows 11
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners
Scroll down to section Printer preferences
Windows protected mode = "Set up" (equals "not configured")
Default install printers using Windows Ready Print = OFF
and
Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer
Scroll up > Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Set as Default

Google Translation:
Thanks a lot, I had tried exactly that method but kept running into issues. It turned out the problem was that I needed to make the changes as an administrator rather than as a standard user.
You are welcome.
Makes sense.
Good Job finding the reason for the difficulties.
Happy Printing. 🖨️
